At Priva we are on a mission to create Sustainable Urban Deltas: an integral approach of urban development with a focus on the integration of green belts (where food for the city is produced) in urbanized areas. With our ideas on how we should deal with food production and urbanization, we want to do our bit to create a better world. We believe that if we handle our natural resources in a smarter way, there will be enough food or everyone, without us exhausting Mother Earth. We are looking for partners with innovative solutions who want to join our mission of sustainable urban food production!

By 2050, about two-thirds of the world population will live in cities - mostly situated in urban deltas. Amongst them will be a large middle class, demanding a healthy environment and access to safe and nutritious food.

Rapidly growing metropolises realize that integral solutions are needed to solve problems related to working, living, mobility, energy, water and food. Their inhabitants can only enjoy a living and working environment with clean air, clean energy, drinkable water and safe and healthy food if the surrounding areas (the green belt or urban growth boundary) and food production are included as an integral part of major urban developments.

We as Priva see how our customers (from growers to real estate developers) are frustrated that already available technology is not applied to create a better world. But at the same time, we find that there are already multiple cases where innovative solutions are applied and bring urban development, industry and food together. We found numerous examples of all sorts of cross-sector connections, where first steps towards a more circular economy already have been taken.

Together with you we want to develop more of these cases, and make them into viable business cases. We are looking for startups / scale-ups innovative solutions who would benefit from partnering with our Priva expertise (Climate Control, Vertical Farming and Smart Grids) to further develop urban food innovations to a market-ready product/service with a sustainable business model.

Priva is a global specialist in hardware, software and supply services for process management and climate control in non-residential buildings, horticulture, indoor growing facilities and in industry. An international family business with roots in the soil of Westland.

What we are looking for

We are looking for innovative solutions that bring urban development, industry and food together (especially when doing this via technical integration) and:

  • reduce the use of natural resources by making use of residual waste flows (preferably in / related to food production);
  • show how food production, as a crucial part of the urban metabolism, can be integrated with other urban elements or processes (eg: in and around buildings and their infrastructural support/network);
  • demonstrate how metropolitan agriculture contributes to improving the livability of urbanized areas;
  • are linked to the business of Priva (Climate Control, Vertical Farming, Smart Grids).

Bonus: Translation how much less waste and decrease of usage of natural resources can be realized.

Question; im currently privately studing, for personal use, the usage of human waste products (urine) for home-grow and home-use fertilizer. The kit used could very easy convert to a sellable product (the kit, not the end product as result of the kit). Is this comparable to the "reduce the use of natural resources by making use of residual waste flows"?

Hi Jeroen, We probably would need to understand your solution better to be able to give a clear answer to that. Our first thoughts though, is that it might be a bit of a challenge to make a solid business case out of a product that was originally meant for home-use?

Burgs Food en Plantvision winnaars challenge duurzame stedelijke voedeslproductie

05 december 2019

Nieuwe innovatie uitdagingen open vanaf januari
